Leaders, women and young people complete practical training in poultry production

Preparation of balanced and homemade supplements

San Lorenzo, April 25, 2022 (IICA) – Around 45 leaders, women and young people from Family Farming organizations in the Central and Cordillera departments complete practical training in dual-purpose poultry production within the framework of the “training” component of the Saemaeul Undong Project implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAG) with the support of the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (FCA) of the National University of Asunción (UNA).

The participants learned how to prepare homemade balances and supplements themselves with ingredients that they have at home or that they can obtain through wild collection, such as mbocayá (coconut), beans, discarded corn and cassava, legume leaves, etc. Additionally, they had the opportunity to build a homemade incubator to hatch chicken and quail eggs, from cheap and easy to obtain elements.

The new knowledge acquired at the end of the livestock production course effectively contributes to achieving food security for families and improving their sources of income.
